The DUP Deputy Mayor of Castlereagh Tommy Sandford has condemned the murder of his 52 year old neighbour in the Cregagh area of east Belfast. The Castlereagh Central Councillor also commented on the death of a man in police custody in connection with the murder. Commenting Mr Sandford said,
“This was a cruel and brutal murder of a very gentle and kind man who was much loved in the area. I knew George well and he was very popular in the community. The vicious nature of the murder has shocked people in the area. I hope those responsible are caught and brought before our courts. I trust anyone with information will bring it to the police and help them with their enquiries.
I am shocked that one of those arrested in connection with the murder has died in custody. This is entirely a matter for the authorities to investigate. It would be wrong to draw conclusions before the Ombudsman has investigated the matter.”
